The department of Anatomy, one of the key departments of CHRI was established in 2006. Since its inception the department has been constantly evolving and upgrading from undergraduate to postgraduate teaching and taking big strides in research. The department boasts of a colossal infrastructure and is equipped with a dissection hall of 5500 square feet which can accommodate around 250 students at a time. The cadaver dispensing system in the dissection hall is a unique feature of this department. The histology lab and research lab are equipped with high contrast microscope with photomicrograph facility for clear and sharp images.

Experienced, qualified and student friendly faculty are an asset to the department who
make the process of learning Anatomy a pleasant experience. The faculty also guide the students and ensure that their transition from school to college is stress free. All the faculty are well qualified (MD/M.Sc. /Ph.D.), having graduated from top ranking institutes. They are also well trained and continually strive to update their knowledge and to establish their benchmark in the field of academics and research.
The faculty adopt various teaching methodologies in concurrence with the competency based medical education curriculum prescribed by the statutory body. Student centric learning methods such as small group teaching, early clinical exposure, Integrated teaching, animations, and quiz programs have been meticulously planned, to make learning anatomy a pleasant experience. The mentorship program is a great success and is well appreciated by the students. The number of distinctions and pass percentage in university exams stands as a testimonial to this mentorship program.
The department museum is a major center of attraction in the medical college campus and houses around 400 wet specimens and 200 model and charts, skillfully segregated and displayed. The museum is popular not only among the students but among the campus visitors too and serves as a motivation for the aspiring students from various schools who are hopeful of pursuing medicine as a profession.
All the faculty are oriented towards research and more than 50 research papers have been published by the faculty in peer reviewed national and international journals. The faculty constantly encourage students to undertake short term research projects and present papers in conferences at undergraduate level. Around 153 papers have been presented by the students in various conferences of which 40 have won best paper awards and 9 best dissertation awards.
Thrust areas for research include congenital abnormalities, osteological abnormalities, placental thickness, studies on the cardiovascular system and neural tube defects.
The Faculty make every effort to create awareness of the human body among the school students and enhance their quest for anatomical knowledge of the human body. They cater to the neighboring schools and nursing colleges. The school students visiting the department are taken on a tour of the museum and dissection Hall. In addition to the school children, students from other nursing college also visit the museum for better training of structures.
