The Department of Neonatology provides specialized care for newborns with a multitude of complex diseases, seamless access to any specialty services needed, and the full complement of surgical approaches for newborns and infants. Our neonatologists, give families access to excellent neonatal services from a multidisciplinary team with strong history of innovation and family-focused care.It extends top quality care to neonates (both premature and sick full term) for a wide array of complex medical and surgical conditions. Our medical team administers the most up to datetreatment.
The Department of Neonatology at Chettinad is equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities that place it on par with the best hospitals in the world. This department workshand in hand with other medical & paramedical experts building effective neonatal care & imparting quality medical education in Neonatology and we are backed by a state of the art NICU.Our NICU environment has decreased light and noise levels, provides longer rest periods, enables proper positioning and provides therapeutic touch and comfort. Babies weighing less than 800 grams also thrive well in our recently updated NICU.
Our department emphasizes preventive aspect of newborn care as an inseparable and invaluable component of neonatology which is Immunization
In addition, screening programs are also offered for:
- Hearing loss
- Hypothyroidism
- Congenital adrenal hyperplasia
- Critical congenital heart disease
- Metabolic disorders for the newborn babies.
All newborn babies are followed up till 1 month of age and further care is transferred to the Pediatrics Department. All high-risk preterm and term babies discharged from NICU get a comprehensive neurodevelopmental follow-up till 6 years of age, including developmental, nutritional, speech and language and ophthalmological assessments.
- Provided in mother and baby-friendly consultation rooms.
- We provide OAE, BERA, ROP, screening for all premature and term babies.
- Routine and special immunizations are available.
- Child development services are provided.
- Trained personnel with specific skills for stabilization and transfer of premature and critically ill newborns

Dedicated and specialized newborn transport team, to attend to births at any hospital where anticipative neonatal services are required.

Transport team, staffed by specially trained nurses and NRP certified newborn registrars, are available24 x 7 for pick up and safe transport of premature and ill newborns delivered in other hospitals.

We have a specially designed Neonatal Mobile Intensive Care Unit ambulance equipped with a state-of–art, newborn transport incubator and sophisticated life support gadgets, monitoring devices and oxygen.
