The Department of Paediatrics is committed to nurturing the health of neonates, infants, children, and adolescents through augmented medical care, research, education, and training. We are a diverse group comprising of academic faculty, clinicians, researchers, postgraduate and administrative staff united in our common goal of improving the health of all newborns, children and adolescentsup to 18 years of age.

Integrated with our educational activities, we provide hands-on learning to equip our graduates with the skills they will need as future advocates of children’s health.

Our mission is topreserve, protect,promote, and restore the health of children through excellence in education, patient care, research, innovation, and policy assistance. Our core values are accountability, enabling mentorship, child friendliness, partnering, team spirit, good governance and fraternal ethos.

The team comprises of skilled, highly competent and devoted paediatricians, headed by Prof.Dr. Uma Devi. They are also actively involved in training the undergraduate and postgraduate students

The Department of Paediatrics provides patient care services 24 by 7 through OPD,IPD,Zero delay ward and emergency. Eminent professors and well-trained faculty are available in general paediatrics, Neonatology andPaediatric critical care.

Undergraduate Programs handled include MBBS, BSc AHS, BSc Nursing and the postgraduate course offered is MD Paediatrics, DM Neonatology and Fellowship in Neonatology.

Postgraduate Teaching occurs on 6 days a week, that includes theory classes using LMS, Clinical case discussions with sub-speciality faculty, seminars, Journal clubs and Grand rounds. Certified Basic and Advanced NRP workshops, Special training at NIEPMD and sub-speciality training at ICH, Egmore is provided. Regular Internal assessments are conducted periodically. We conduct local and divisional rounds of IAP and NNF Quiz every year. It is mandatory for students to get certified in at least two Swayam online courses before exams.

UG Teaching is implemented through LMS for theory as well as vertical and integrated teaching methods. Bedside small group clinical demonstration and discussions are conducted. Basic NRP, skills lab and special training at NIEPMD is regularly conducted. Every year UG IAP and NNF quiz as well as special quiz programmes during National Newborn week, Breast feeding and Nutrition week are conducted.

Department also takes part in teaching programme of college of Nursing as well as Allied Health sciences.

The team of self-motivated paediatricians also dedicate themselves to research. The major thrust areas for research are Functional gastrointestinal disorders, zinc therapy in gastrointestinal disorders, pulmonary function tests, congenital infections, communicable infections, malaria, bronchial asthma.

Immunisation clinics functions on all working days from 8:30AM to 3:00PM.

Vaccines fitting into the Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) are given free of costand other special vaccines (at nominal charges) recommended by IAP/AAP/WHO are also available.

Childcounselling services are provided to help nurture the budding generation.

The ward is equipped with 120 beds which includes general wards, emergency, NICU and PICUwith sophisticated investigations and imaging facilities. Patients can choose to get admitted either in general ward, semiprivate or private rooms with the added benefit of availing insurance policies. Excellent inpatient care is provided with round the clock staff and doctors to attend to the needs of the patient.

Paediatric Emergency services are provided 24X7 and we have specialised Intensive Care Units (PICU and NICU). Our PICU is a level -III 15 bedded facility with state of the art full-fledged multi modalmonitoring including ECHO, EEG, ICP monitoring, mechanical ventilation (invasiveand non-invasive), CRRT and bronchoscope facilities.

Our NICU is a level III facility and has all state-of-the-art facilities whichincludes Neonatal Invasive & Non-Invasive Ventilation, High frequency ventilation,Nitric Oxide therapy, Care of Extremely Low Birth Weight Infants, Post general &cardiac surgical care of newborns, Therapeutic hypothermia, point of careultrasound, neonatal transport, follow up of NICU Growth and DevelopmentalSupport Programs & community based neonatal care.

Health services in the form of Community health services and School health services are rendered with the intention of making care accessible to all.The extensive capabilities of the institution, straddling primary to tertiary medical care 4.B) Inpatient services
