Outreach Activity - World Hypertension Day

The event started with a welcome address and introduction of the theme by Ms. Gna Jemila Paul, M.Sc. Nursing II-year student at Chettinad College of Nursing. Role play started with the theme "Measure your blood pressure accurately, control it, and live longer" by B.Sc. II year students from 10.35 a.m. to 11 a.m. The food exhibition started, followed by the role play exhibiting the foods to be taken, like a low-sodium diet, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and fat-free or very low-fat dairy. Foods to be avoided like fatty meats, full-fat dairy, sugar-sweetened beverages, oil-fried items, and pickles that contain high sodium to control hypertension were discussed by Ms. Sahana and her team from 11 a.m. to 11.20 a.m. Pamphlet distribution took place around 11.20 a.m. and were issued to the participants who attended the event individually and also distributed to those who had not attended the programme through home visits by the students. The pamphlet covers hypertension control and prevention. Free blood pressure checks took place from 11.30 to 12.00 noon, and the public enjoyed the event from beginning to the end. A feedback session was held at the end of the programme, in which participants expressed that the session was an excellent experience. Application of Statistics in Nursing

The event started at morning 9.00am. The guest speaker Prof. Dr. Amalraj Antony, Dept of Biostatistics, Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER). He explained in detail about the Application of statistics in Nursing Research for consecutive days
Day 1: 20.04.2023
The day one session dealt about what is statistics, types of measurement (qualitative and quantitative), types of variables, presentation of data (graphs & table), types of statistic (descriptive & inferential statistics). Under the descriptive he explained measurement of central tendency (mean , median & mode) and measure of dispersion (range, SD,CV,ratio), finally speaker explained about hypothesis test analysis and common statistical test with description and appropriate examples with deviations
Day 2: 21.04.2023
The day two session full of practical session about how to code the data in excel sheet and how to transfer into SPSS. under the SPSS he trained the participants about frequency, chisquare, standard deviation, t test, anova, range, variation, pre and post test calculation). Finally the speaker explained about sample size calculation.
Feedback session held at the end of the programme in which the guest Speaker expressed he is willing to take online session can be conducted in future. Dr. Hepsibah Sharmil. Managing Intellectual property: How publishing works?

The event started with welcome address and introductory speech by Mr. Venkatesan A, Associate professor and HOD of Medical Surgical Nursing, Chettinad College of Nursing. The sessions started with the presentation by Prof. Dr. Balasubramanian. T Additional Registrar and Dean, Dr. M.G.R. Educational & Research Institute, Maduravoil, Chennai. Session one dealt about How to be a legitimate Publisher? Creating ISBN and License, in this how to choose the ideal title and creation of Blue print, uses of various software explained in detail. Types of image format, structured and unstructured format content like XML, DITA, markdown, and E-book formats like PDF, EPUB, Azw4, Mobi were listed and how to convert the file with Calibre demonstrated in online. Designing the cover page for the book with Adobe photoshop, GIMP, Coral draw, PPT, MS-Word were enumerated. How to create the ISBN in the website called inflibnet.ac.in were explained step by step. Session two dealt about what is royalty, how to be vigilant, and publication pathway explained in details about to be author and independent publisher and being a author with the publisher. Session three dealt about how to be an Amazon book seller, developing App and substantially in this how to Upload and Publish in the Google, Amazon, open library, scribed were explained in depth. Finally speaker explained about the other internet resource materials and tools which enhance the writing skills. Feedback session held at the end of the programme in which participants expressed that the session gave excellent experience to them and similar programme they would like to have in future. International Day of Yoga

8th International day of yoga 2022 has celebrated at Chettinad Academy of Research & Education at Kelambakkam on 21.06.2022. Prof. Dr. Shantha Ravisankar, Vice-Chancellor of CARE inaugurated the Yoga for Humanity program on the occasion of International day of yoga. Dr. Yuva Dayalan, Founder & Director of Yuvaa Yoga was the special guest on this yoga program and trained all the students & staff members. Dr. Kirubalan Dy. Director, Department of Physical Education & Dr. Sanjay Andrew Department of Physiology organized and coordinated the yoga program.

Two Days Workshop on ‘FIRST AID - A BASIC LIFE-SAVING SKILLS’

A two-day hands on workshop on ‘First aid - A basic life-saving skills’ was organized by Chettinad School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (CSPS) in collaboration with Chettinad College of Nursing (CCN), Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (CARE) on 18th and 19th March 2022. The first day of the workshop was initiated by a welcome note by Prof. Dr. Hepsibah Sharmil, Principal, Chettinad College of Nursing followed by Dr.K.Lakshmi, Dean i/c, Chettinad School of Pharmaceutical Sciences. First Session was delivered by Mr. Venkatesan A, HOD of Medical Surgical Nursing, CCN on the basic first aid aspects such as CPR, first aid for chocking, types of wounds and bleeding and first aid box. Second Session was delivered by Ms. Grace Pal, Nursing Tutor, CCN on first aid for burns, snake bites, poisoning, drowning, fainting and unconsciousness. Mr. Arunraj M, Resuscitation and Simulation Educator, CCN gave a detailed lecture on the basic life saving skills for adults, children and infants. On day two of the workshop, all the students were divided into three batches for the hands-on demonstration in the ‘Skills Lab’ located in the second floor. All the students were given hands-on experience on dressing the wound, applying different types of bandages, splinting the injured body part, heimlich maneuvre for chocking, providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and transferring the victim by using mannequines. An active and enthusiatic participation was observed among students and they have gained confidence to meet the emergency situations. About 57 first year B.Pharmacy students participated in this workshop and are highly benefitted. The event was organised and coordinated by Dr.S.Brito Raj, Associate Professor of Chettinad School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, CARE.

Value-added Program : Fundamentals of SPSS

Value-added courses enable the student to develop skills. Chettinad College of Nursing, CARE organized a value-added program on IBM SPSS Statistics from 30.11.2021 to 04.12.2021.The Resource persons were Prof.Rogina J.S Savarimuthu, Department of Mental Health Nursing and Mrs Anbu, Nursing Tutor, Chettinad College of Nursing.The program was designed with 5 units focused on hands the topics covered Types of data for SPSS analysis,installation of SPSS, data and variable view,data entry, descriptive statistics like mean, median, standard deviation and inferential statistics such as ANOVA, t test, correlation coefficient, regression analysis and graphs.A total of 104 participants attended the program. The students learnt toanalyze the data using SPSS.

Clean India Campaign-2021

The Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India envisages the country Clean with the theme ‘Clean India’ for October 2021. The NSS, Chettinad Academy of Research and Education commemorated by conducting a Door to Door waste collection campaign at Thaiyur village, Chengalpet District on 28.10.21.A total of 20 NSS volunteers and students, faculty CARE participated in this event. Mrs Yaga Jeyanthi, NSS, Programme Officer, CARE along with Dr Koyeli Girigoswami, Associate Professor, FAHS, CHRI and NSS and UBA coordinator organised the event. Plastic and non-degradable wastes from houses were collected in a cloth bag and discarded in a panchayat dustbin.

Alumni meet for 2016-17 Batch of nursing students of CCN, CARE was organized by CCN on 8.10.21. The welcome address was given by DrHepsibahSharmil S, Principal, Chettinad College of Nursing followed by the special addressby Dr Loganathan, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Allied Health sciences.All the alumni participants cherished their experiences and recalled their old memories. The program was followed by a variety of other events such as songs and dance competitions.The alumni felicitatedand honouredall the faculty with awards and memento. The Alumni reflected and gave feedback on curricular prospects and extracurricular activitieson the campus. A total of 200 alumni attended the event.

Chettinad Volleyball Premier League 2021 (Men & Women)

Chettinad Volleyball Premier League 2021 was conducted at our Chettinad health city campus on 29.09.2021. DrNirupa, Department of Microbiology inaugurated the tournament in presence of DrRajesh kanna, Department of Pathology & DrKirubalan, Department of Physical Education.Theevent was a league tournament where there were divided into 2 pools with three teams in each and the top two teams from each pool went on to the semifinals. Semifinals men's section was held between MBBS A vs BDS, NURSING vs AHS and the Semifinals women section was held between MBBS A vs AHS B, B.Pharm/B.PT vs AHS A. The finals were held on 1st October between MBBS A vs Nursing, where the Nursing team emerged as the winners in the men section and the Women section between MBBS A vs AHS, where the MBBS team emerged as winners NaniaNanda Kumar from the Nursing team was announced to be the best player of the finals & Khalid Ahamed from the MBBS team was announced to be the best player of the tournament for the men section.Gayathri from the MBBS team was announced to be the best player of the tournament for the women section.DrEbenezer, Principal, FAHS, Dr John Antony Prabhakaran, Dept of Surgery, Dr Rajeshkanna, Department of Pathology, Dr Premkumar, Department of Dermatology graced the event with their presence and distributed the awards and medals to the winners.

NSS DAY CELEBRATION

NSS team of CARE celebrated the NSS Day celebration on 24.09.21. The event started with the Inaugural Speech of the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr T Balasubramanian, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Chettinad Academy of Research and Education. Dr Koyeli Girigoswami NSS PO, CARE, presented the last year NSS activities and the certificates were issued for the Unit 1 and Unit 2 volunteers by the chief guest. The winners of the slogan writing competition and recipe competition for the Poshan Maah celebration were awarded certificates. 200 NSS volunteers and students, faculties from various constituent colleges of Chettinad Academy of Research and Education-Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute including Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Chettinad College of Nursing, Chettinad School of Law, Chettinad School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chettinad School of Physiotherapy and Chettinad school of Architecture attended the event.The program ended with a vote of thanks by Ms YagaJeyanthi, NSS PO, CARE and the National Anthem.

Chettinad Basketball Premier League 2021

Chettinad Basketball Premier League 2021 was held at our Basketball court which started on 30th August 2021. Dr John Antony Prabhakaran of the Department of General Surgery Inaugurated the tournament in presence of Dr Rajesh Kanna, Department of Pathology & Dr Kirubalan, Department of Physical Education. It was held between eight teams of various batches. It was a league tournament where the eight teams were divided into 2 pools with four teams in each pool. Matches were held between teams of each pool and the top two teams were selected for the semifinals. The finals match was held on 21.09.21 between MBBS 2nd year team A vs MBBS INTERNS where the CRRIs team won the tournament. Dr Balasubramanian, Vice-Chancellor, CARE graced the event with his presence and distributed the awards and medals to the respective winners.

This wasfollowed by simulation training on the above topics. A total of 36 participants attended the training.

Teachers’ Day celebration at CARE

Teachers’ Day was Commemorated byChettinadAcademy of Research and Education on 06.09.21 at the SigapiAachi Auditorium of the campus.The faculty from all schools and colleges of CARE along with the students attended the program. The event was presided over by DrBalaSubramaninan, Vice-Chancellor, CARE and Mrs Jeyendra Saraswathi, Registrar, CARE and Dr PitchaiBalashanmugam, Dean,CHRI were present during the occasion. The students from all colleges and schools wished their teachers on ‘my favourite teacher’ event. An interesting quiz competition was conducted for the faculty and fun games were played.This was followed by a talent show that included singing and dancing performance of the faculty. The program ended with a vote of thanks and refreshments.

The IQAC cell, CARE organized a guest lecture on the title ‘Copyright Registration Process In India’ on 07.08.21. The scientific session was delivered by Ms Priya Gautam, Examiner of Copyrights, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), New Delhi, Government of India. It was followed by a discussion session. The participants raised questions and doubts which were addressed by the speaker. The total number of participants was 117.

The speaker discussed breastfeeding physiology, advantages, storage of breastmilk in the refrigerator and human milk banking. The session was informative.A total of 100 participants attended the lecture.

Career counselling program-2021 was organized by the College of Nursing, CARE on the theme ‘Innovative Healthcare Careers For Nurses’ on 28.07.2021. The resource persons were Mr Francis Felix Joseph, Financial Education Counselor, ICICIFoundation for Inclusive Growth and Mr. Mandeep Singh, Director (Strategic Initiatives), Chitkara University, Chandigarh. The programme started with a welcome address by Mrs.Manjula.T.R, Member, Placement Cell, CARE and the speakers were felicitated by Dr. S.HepsibahSharmil, Principal, CCN, CARE. In the first session, Mr.Francis Felix Joseph presented on the topic ‘Financial Literacy Program’. Hehighlighted Banking, educational loan processing, Mutual funds, proper handling of credit and debit cards, government schemes, financial planning and CIBIL importance. In the second session speaker, Mr. Mandeep Singh presented on the topic ‘Evolving Healthcare Careers for Nurses Post COVID’. He explained about the Indian scenario in the healthcare industry, new nursing career pathways, challenges faced by the healthcare industry in client care and Post COVID new innovative health care careers available for nurses to climb up to new heights. The sessions were informative and interactive. Ninety Final Year Nursing Students & all the faculty members of CCN attended the program.

Campus Interview And In - House Placement- 2021

Career counselling and placement cell, CARE conducted campus interviews and in-house placement from 28.07.21 to 18.08.2021. Institutions participated in campus interview were Madras Medical Mission, Mogappair, Chennai, Chettinad Super Specialty Hospital, Kelambakkam. Chettinad Hospital And Research Institute, Kelambakkam, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai And Sugam Hospitals, Tiruvottiyur. a total of 100 final yeyearsSc., nursing students & two post-basic B Sc nursing students attended the campus interview. In all the interviews, a pretest interviews assessment was done.The campus interview team from MMM were Mr Isaiah Johnson, HR Manager, MrsRanjitham, Chief Nursing Officer.Mrsanjitham CNO highlighted the hands-on skill training and work experience in MMM. 85 B Sc(N) students attended the interview and 20 (24%) got selected in the interview.The In-house Placement interview team from CSSH was MrsHannah IsabellahPaulraj, Chief Nursing Superintendent and MrsLalitha, Assistant Nursing Superintendent. Direct interviews of 82 B Sc(N) and 2 Post Basic B Sc(N) students were carried out and 70 (83 %) students got selected in the interview. The In-house Placement interview was conducted by MrsVimala.I, Nursing Superintendent, CHRI. The direct interview was conducted for shortlisted students- 81 B Sc (N) and 1 Post Basic B Sc(N) studentand 72 (88%) students got selected in the interview.The campus interview team from Apollo Hospitals was MsEzilabeth, Deputy Nursing Superintendent, MsAmulya Ajay, Asst. Manager – Talent Acquisition, MsJeevitha, Senior Nursing Educator, MsBlessy, Clinical Instructor. The interview was conducted for 95 B Sc (N) and 2 Post Basic B Sc(N) students and 50 (51%) students got selected in the interview.The online interview was conducted by MsPaniRoselin, Nursing Superintendent, Sugam Hospital, Tiruvottiyur. 18 B Sc(N) students attended the interview and 5 (28 %) students got selected in the interview.The institutional Career cell support was done by CCN Faculties, Dr S HepsibahSharmil, Mrs Manjula. Chettinad Sarvalokaa Forest Education Initiative

In an initiative to contribute towards a sustainable environment and ecosystem, Chettinad Sarvalokaa Education, international School along with Chettinad Academy of Research & Education conducted a mega sapling plantation initiative on 16.07.2021. The Honorable Chancellor Mrs. Geetha Muthiah planted the first sapling followed by Dr. T. Balasubramanian, Vice-Chancellor, The students of CHRI, staff & faculty of Chettinad Academy of Research and Education, Students, Parents and Staff of Chettinad Sarvalokaa Education international School actively participated in the tree sapling plantation. Around 2500 saplings of 200 indigenous species of trees were planted on 4.5 acres under this initiative.

Chettinad College of Nursing, CARE organized a career counselling event on the theme ‘Career Opportunities and Success pathway in Nursing Arena’ on 15.7.21. The programme started with the welcome address by Mrs.Manjula.T.R, Member, Placement Cell, CARE. The speakers were Ms.Shiny Charles, Project lead, International Placement and Ms. Deepti Gaddam, Managing Director, SIMS Healthcare, Hyderabad. Ms.Shiny discussed the topic ‘NHS UK Career Orientation’ and gave an orientation on UK Placement Program, Vertical courses offered by SIMS Healthcare, Eligibility criteria for UKPP Process, Nurse 360 Course and benefits for Nurses who are planning for a Job overseas. Ms. Deepti highlighted the importance of developing skills to shine as highly competent nurses. The total number of participants was 106 which included final year nursing students and faculty members. The speakers were felicitated by Dr. S. Hepsibah Sharmil, Principal, CCN, CARE.

Workshop on HIV-AIDS- a GFATM educational training program

The Chettinad College of Nursing (CCN), CARE had organized a workshop in collaboration with GLOBAL FUND FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST AIDS, TUBERCULOSIS AND MALARIA (GFATM) on 01.07.2021. The resource persons were Mrs. S. Ruksana Begam, M.Sc(N), Associate Professor, Mrs. Anbu, M.Sc(N), Nursing Tutor, Mrs. Priya, B.Sc(N), Nursing Tutor, CCN. The topics discussed were introduction on HIV/AIDS, Symptoms, Management, Opportunistic infections (OIs) and Anti Retro Viral Therapy (ART), HIV/AIDS & the Nurses Role, Stigma and discrimination & Prevention of HIV Transmission and Complementary Therapies in HIV/AIDS & Positive living by PLHIV and Counseling on PLHIV. Demonstrations related to these topics were held. The session was very interactive. A total of 105 (Final Year B.Sc(N) & PBB.Sc(N) students & Faculty attended.

International Conference - Closing the Gap in Nursing Teaching and Practice

The College of Nursing, CCN organized an international conference in collaboration with an international university on 23.06.21 & 24.06.21. The organizing chairpersons were Prof. Dr. Hepsibah Sharmil S, Principal, Chettinad College of Nursing, CARE and Prof. Dr. Hamidah Hassan, Head of Nursing Department, University Malaysia Sabah (UMS). The organizing secretaries were Prof. YagaJeyanthi, HOD-Community Health Nursing and Mr. Venkatesan A, HOD-Medical Surgical Nursing, Chettinad College of Nursing. The programme started with the welcome address by Prof. Dr. Hepsibah Sharmil, Principal, CCN, followed by Deputy Dean Associate Prof. Dr. Fairrul Kadir delivered a welcome note from UMS. Dr. T. Balasubramanian, Vice-Chancellor, Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (CARE), India and Dr. MohdRahimie Abd Karim, Director Center for Strategic Management and Corporate Communication, UMS delivered the inaugural address respectively. Prof. Dr. S. Ani Grace Kalaimathi, Registrar, Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council delivered a keynote address, she discussed the way to bridge the gap between nursing theory and practice. International Yoga Day -2021

The Department of Physical Education, CARE organized a national webinar to commemorate International Yoga Day on 21.06.2021. The theme of the webinar was “Yoga for well-being”. The resource person for the webinar was Prof.Dr. Arunthathy, Professor, Department of Radiology, Saveetha Medical College & Hospital and Yoga Instructor, Isha Foundation. The programmed started with a welcome address by Dr. Pragatheeshwaran, General Surgery Final year student, CARE followed by inauguration ceremony by Prof. Dr. T. Balasubramian, Vice Chancellor, CARE. A total of 150 participants attended the programme. The programme ended with a vote of thanks given by Dr. G. Kirubalan, Deputy Director, Physical Education, CARE.

International Yoga Day -2021

The international day of yoga (IDY) for the year 2021 was commemorated by NSS and UBA, Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (CARE) on 21.06.2021. The Chief Guest of the event was Dr T Balasubramanian, Vice-Chancellor, CARE. The programme started with an invocation song followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. Koyeli Girigoswami, NSS, PO and UBA coordinator,CARE. The Chief Guest delivered the inaugural address highlighting the importance of Yoga and the origin of yoga practice. The speech was very motivating for all the participants and after the completion of his speech, a video demonstration of different types of breathing exercises was screened. The expert who demonstrated Yoga was Ms. Kamlesh Barwal, Director of SriSri Yoga, Art of Living and she elaborately explained the various types of breathing exercises and their benefits in combating COVID 19. Then the vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Nancy Victoria, NSS, PO, CARE followed by the National anthem to conclude the programme. The participants were the different volunteers of NSS, UBA, students from different constituent colleges of CARE, faculties and staffs.A total of 100 participants attended the event.

Gender Champion Club Activity-2021

Chettinad College of Nursing, CARE organized a guest lecture and video editing contest to emphasize gender empowerment and gender roles on 04.06.2021. The event started with the welcome address by Prof. Dr. Hepsibah Sharmil S, Principal, CCN. The speaker was Ms. Anagha R Nair, Former. Content designer & Facilitator, Chetana education, Tamilnadu. Her session enriched the participants’ vision on Gender differences and gender responsibility in society. Various factors discussed were gender equality and inequality, gender issues, factors influencing gender roles, & gender biases in society. A total of 250 participants attended the lecture. This was followed by a video editing contest. The Moderator was Ms.Metha, Assistant Professor, Gender champion club in-charge, Chettinad college of nursing and the competition was judged by Dr. P.Senthil, Dean I/C, School of physiotherapy, CARE. The participants were given 3-4 minutes to present their Video The videos were evaluated on criteria- visual appeal, uniqueness, technical execution, appropriateness etc. The winners were Ishwarya BSc Nursing IV year. And Tamizhvelan BSc Nursing IV year & Janaki BSc Nursing IV year.

The speakers were Dr Prithika Udyakumar, Research Scientist and Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Centre for Excellence, Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, Maduravoyal, Chennai. Dr. Hepsibah, Principal, CCN introduced the speaker Dr. Prithika Udyakumar, Research Scientist and Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, The topics discussed were an introduction to covid- 19,the difference between viruses and bacteria, mechanism, incubation period,the difference between signs and symptoms coronavirus infection virus, flu and cold,the first wave and dangerous turn of the second wave of the corona, key drugs, management for all stages, mucormycosis definition, symptoms and management,COVID-19 mutants and variants, types of COVID-19 vaccines and its differences, and finally finished with details about phases of clinical trials.At the end of the session, all participants doubt were clarified. A total of 237 participants attended the workshop.

The Chettinad College of Nursing, Chettinad Academy of Research education conducted a lecture as a part of the ongoing research lecture series on the topic ‘Funding application: Seed Money’ on 21.05.2021.The resource person was Mrs. Rogina J. S. Savarimuthu, Professor & HOD, Mental Health Nursing Dept.,CCN, CARE. The opportunity for young faculty members to apply for a seed research grant was explained in steps. The eligibility criteria, proposal budget, financial ceiling, the maximum duration for the project, IRB submission & interview, and ICMR proposal format were discussed in detail. The importance of the Seed grant to enable researchers to develop their research activities and apply for extramural research funding was highlighted. The session was informative and interactive one with 20 faculties of CARE participation.

Workshop on Endotracheal Intubation

The Chettinad College of Nursing, Chettinad Academy of Research and Education organized a workshop on endotracheal intubation on 17.05.2021 for nursing staff. Mrs. Hepsibah, Principal, CCN introduced the resource person Mr. Dickson, Staff Nurse, Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute. The session covered the following topics on Endotracheal intubation such as definition, types, oral ET intubation, Nasal ET intubation, Risk factors, indications of ET intubation, types of equipment required for endotracheal intubation, parts of the ET tube and its different sizes, Mallampatti classification to predict the ease of intubation, preparation, etc, The staff got hands-on experience to intubate the mannequin. At the end of the session, all participants’ doubts were clarified. All the CCN faculties and Students- a total of 273 attended the workshop.

International Midwives WeekCelebration - CCN

The College of Nursing, Chettinad Academy of Research and Education commemorated international midwives week from 03.05.21 to 06.05.21 which included competitions and guest lectures. The speakers of the guest lecture were Mrs.C.T.AbraPearl, Technical officer, Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi, and Prof. Dr. Vijayalakshmi.K, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, CHRI. The first Guest lecture was on ‘Current trends in Midwifery’ that focused on Midwife -Led- Continuity- of -Care, women-centered and Respect full maternity care, Rights of childbearing women, International childbirth initiative. The second guest lecture was on ‘Birth Equity for All’ where the speaker discussed various aspects of Mortality and morbidity, Fair maternal care, and ways to reduce MMR. A total of 46, including students & Faculty attended the lecture. In addition, competitions were held during the week. An Oratorical competition on ‘My practice in Maternity Nursing’ was conducted in which Ms. H. Goldlin Jebaselvi IV th year B.Sc Nursing, secured the first place and the second place was shared by Mr. B. Hari krishnan IV th year B.Sc Nursing ,and Ms. Sasikala.G I year M.Sc Nursing. The second competition was video making contest on ‘Obstetrical care at Home during Pandemic’. The judge for the video contest was Dr.P.Senthil. Dean I/C, Department of Physiotherapy. The first and second place was secured by Mr.Prince William F and Ms.Augusta of IV th year B.Sc Nursing respectively. The participants were thrilled to participate in these competitions.

The speaker discussed the data, data search, uses of data in research, various types of data, different types of data visualization, merits and demerits of each type of data visualization. There were more than 20 participants and the participants found the session was highly informative and insightful.

The speaker explained various types of descriptive and inferential statistics, the application of parametric and non-parametric tests according to data, how to do statistical application in Xl and how to write the inference for nursing research based on hypothesis. 18 participants were actively involved in discussion with the speaker at the end of the lecture.

Continuing Nursing Education- World Earth Day

The Chettinad College of Nursing, CARE conducted a CNE to commemorate World Earth Day on 22.04.2021. The speakers of the CNE were Dr. Preethi Sudha, Director Labriut Nutrients, Bangalore, and Dr. Achsah Steffi John, Education Officer, Madras Crocodile Bank Centre. Thesessionenriched the student's vision on the conservation of renewable and non-renewable resources. The students gained knowledge on the importance of reducing, reuse, recycling waste. The sessions were very live and interactive. Dr.Hepsibah felicitated the speakers. In addition to the lectures, talent shows, e-poster competitions were conducted. The theme of the talent show was "Restore Earth".The moderator was Prof. Vanitha. K, HOD-Obstetric and Gynecological Nursing and the Judges were Dr. Lakshmi, Dean In-charge, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, CARE and Prof. Rogina Savarimuthu, HOD- Mental Health Nursing, CCN. Participants were given 4-5 minutes to perform their talents. Totally 7 students participated in the talent show. They showed their talents in the form of videos on save water, song, painting, and poetry telling. The winner of the program was finalized by the judges based on their performance, fulfillment of criteria, excellence in preparation, etc. The Winners: were 1st prize: Prithish. S, B.Sc(N) II year and 2nd prize: Shruthi. S, Pharmacy II year. An E-POSTER was conducted on the topic "Recycling at College". The Moderator - Prof. Yaga Jeyanthi & Prof.Jose Mary, Department of Community. The judges were Dr. Kumar Ebinesar, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, CARE, and Prof. Shanmugapriya, HOD- Child Health Nursing, CCN.Totally 17 students participated in the e-poster presentation. Students were given 3-4 min to present their poster and it was evaluated based on the criteria like visual appeal, appropriateness, accuracy, etc. The Winners were 1st prize, Abishek, B.Pharm II year and 2nd prize, Ashlin X, B.Pharm II year. A total of 19 faculty and 180 students participated in the lecture.

The Chettinad College of Nursing, Chettinad Academy of Research and Education organized a workshop as a part of the Faculty Development program- Research lecture series on the topic ‘Extramural Grants in Nursing Research’ on 22.04.2021. The resource person was Dr. L. Gopichandran, Associate Professor, College of Nursing, AIIMS, New Delhi. The speaker explained in detail about developing and submitting research proposals to funding agencies. The speaker also discussed research proposal writing, how to write specific proposals for a funding agency, a list of funding agencies that promote research, stages of the grant application, research grant proposal review criteria, pitfalls to avoid, and common shortcomings. The session wasattended by 26 participants who are faculty of CARE and the participants found the sessioninteractive and informative.

M, Max Academy, and Prof. T.Samuel Ravi Kumar, Trauma Center coordinator, CMC, Vellore. The event started with a welcome address by Prof. Yaga Jeyanthi M. Two sessions held were addressed by the two speakers.The first sessionwas on "Importance of communication and scope of Foreign Language" by Prof. Jayamary M. The speaker talked aboutthe importance of communication and language for job prospects abroad. He also insisted on the need of acquiring language competency to pass exams such as IELTS & TOEFL, OET, etc. The secondsession was on "Nursing- Career Pathway" by Prof. T.Samuel Ravi Kumar. Disaster preparedness was delivered in the form of Video. The speaker taught skills & demonstrated the application of skills in nursing practice and trauma care nursing. Nursing - Essentials of Autopsy in Nursing ‘& Patterns of medico-legal cases in Casualty:what Nurses need to know?’

A CNE program was organized by the Chettinad College Of Nursing, CARE on 22.03.2021. The title of the CNE was ‘Essentials of Autopsy in Nursing ‘& Patterns of medico-legal cases in Casualty: what Nurses need to know?’. The speakers of the CNE were Dr. M. Sreenivasan, Dr. S. K Nawaz Ahmed, Faculty, Department of Forensic Medicine, Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute (CHRI). The program started with a welcome address by Mrs. Krupa Susan Koshy. Session one was addressed by Dr. S.K. Sreenivasan. The essentials of the autopsy were displayed through a video.The video detailed the information on how to perform the autopsy and the entire procedure was described. The second session was taken by Dr. S. K Nawaz Ahmed on the management of medico –legal cases in Casualty. He emphasized the importance of reporting medico-legal cases to the police department. And he also explained the issues and management of medico-legal cases in casualty.The session was very informative and the participantslearned the methods of handling medico-legal cases in Casualty. A total of 70 participants – faculty & students attended the CNE.

A faculty development program was organized by Chettinad College of Nursing, Care on 11.03.2021. The speaker of the presentation was Dr.Danis Vijay, M.Sc., Ph.D., who was a researcher with more than 15 publications of original research articles in PubMed, Scopus, and web of science indexed journals. The speaker explained on journal finder to find the appropriate Scopus and web of science journals. He also shared details of how to check plagiarism and language editing software. The session was informative and the event concluded a vote of thanks and felicitation of the guest speaker by Dr. Hepsibah Sharmil.S, Principal, CCN. A total of 14 faculty members attended the event.

CARE - International Women’s Day Commemoration (8 March 2021)

Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (CARE) commemorated the International Women’s day 2021 with the theme of ‘Choose to Challenge’ on March 8, 2021. The Chief Guest of the event was Ms.Pushpa Narayan, Senior Assistant Editor, Times of India.

The event started auspiciously with a prayer. The introductory speech was given by Prof. Dr. Ruckmani, Head, Department of Pharmacology, CHRI who spoke on the history behind the celebration of International Women’s Day and the need for the attitudinal change in both men and women. This was followed by the Inaugural address by our Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Dr. T.Balasubramanian. He reminded us that every religion insists on the importance of women. He also affirmed the fact that behind every man there is a woman and talked about the contributions of Avvaiyar and Mother Teresa. He also lauded the many roles played by a woman from birth. The chief guest appreciated the institute that it has ‘CARE’ in the name. She spoke that it is the responsibility of every person in the society on women empowerment. This was followed by Dr. Merlin, Department of Anesthesiology who spoke on painless delivery.

Smt. Geetha Muthiah Labour Analgesia services was then inaugurated by the chief guest. An interesting debate was conducted with two teams of six participants from all the schools and colleges under CARE, who debated on the topic- whether women should change or men should change their attitude to prevent women oppression. Faculty and students from schools of Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute, Dental College, Allied health sciences, Law, Architecture, Physiotherapy and College of nursing attended the event and actively participated in the discussion on women oppression and crime against them. The chief guest concluded that women have a strong role and ability in convincing men to change for women's empowerment. Dr. Vijayashree, Head, Department of Pathology, CHRI delivered the vote of thanks. The program was ended with National anthem.

International Women’s day 2021 - Sports Tournament

As part of the International Women’s day, 2021 celebration at Chettinad Academy of Research and Education, the Department of Physical Education conducted a Sports tournament exclusively for all women (students & staff) on 08.03.2021. The tournament comprised of various sports events such as Lucky Corner, Tug of War, Pot hitting, and Ball passing relay. This sports tournament involved female students from all the constituent colleges/schools of CARE, to play as a team. Prof. Dr. Rukmani, HOD, Department of Pharmacology inaugurated the women’s day Sports Tournament. About 350 participants, including students and staff members, took part in the events organized. The winner of Tug of War was a team of students of I year M.Sc Psychology and Runners-up were I year M.Sc students of AHS. The winner of Pot hitting event was Gayathri. R, I year M.Sc Psychology. Lucky corner and Ball pass Relay sports winners were Nursing, Physiotherapy, MBBS, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Architecture, and Faculty of Allied health Sciences students. Dr. T. Balasubramian, Vice-Chancellor of Chettinad Academy of Research & Education was the Chief Guest and he distributed the certificates and medals to the winners. The entire campus wore a festive look during this women’s day celebration and the event ended in grand splendor.

Freshers Day Celebration- CCN

Chettinad College of Nursing hosted the fresher day celebration with a cultural event involving first-year BSc, PBBSc, and MSc Nursing students on 06.03.2021. During the event, the third-year BSc and PBBSc students’ welcomed the freshers- the 15th batch of the first year B.Sc Nursing, the 13th batch of P.B.B.Sc nursing, and M.Sc nursing students. The opening address was delivered by Dr. S Hepsibah, the Principal, CCN. The program had events such as singing, group dance, and talent-provoking interactive tasks by the freshers. The program had a smooth introduction of seniors to the juniors and vice versa. The juniors and seniors interacted with each other and the total participants of the event were around 300.

Plastic-free environment awareness campaign

NSS and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan of CARE organized a plastic-free campaign in the adopted village Kayar. Nearly 100 students and volunteers from FAHS, CCN, and CSP participated in the event. They went door to door of the villagers and collected the plastic bags and distributed cloth bags to them. This is a part of the Swacchata activity. Chettinad Academy of Research and Education in collaboration with AWARE India, organized an awareness campaign on 1st March 2021 for women empowerment to commemorate International women’s day. The event was inaugurated by Vice chancellor of our university Dr. T. Balasubramanian. Women activists from the Aware India Organization addressed the students of CARE, in which they discussed on topics- Gender equality, Child abuse, Mental Health and also promoted the Women safety at Schools, Colleges and Workplaces. This event happened in Lecture Hall 1 in the Academic block of our campus and more than 320 female students and faculty attended.This was followed by a PRIDE RIDE Campaign, which is a bike riding event by women that starts from Chennai and Puducherry to cover all districts of Tamil Nadu. This is being done in a view of achieving the mission statement- ‘Re-imagining Womanhood’, on this International women’s day. Our Vice chancellor, Dr. T. Balasubramanian flagged off the she-riders riding campaign.The she-riders (Woman motorcycle riders club) is all set to 1 Goal will ride for 31 days to cover all the 39 districts spreading awareness about women empowerment.

Introduction to NABH on Nursing Excellence Certificate

A Continuous Nursing Education (CNE) Programme was organized by the College of Nursing on 26.02.2021. The speaker of the event was Mr. Venkatesan. A, Assistant Professor and HOD, Medical-Surgical Nursing Department, Chettinad College of Nursing, CARE. In the CNE, the vision and mission of NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Healthcare provider) was highlighted. The benefits of accreditation for health care agencies, staff, and patients were informed. Components of NABH (Nursing Excellence have 07 chapters, 48 standards, 216 objective elements) and the eligibility criteria of Internal and External Assessor were discussed. Documentation for nursing resources, induction plan, in-service education, acknowledgment of contributions, workplace safety, grievance handling system, the principle of natural justice, the confidentiality of the information, and patients’ rights were also detailed by the speaker. The program was attended by students and faculty members of CCN.

International Mother Language Day

The Department of Pharmacology, Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute commemorated the International Mother Language Day on 19.02.2021. The event comprised of a Guest lecture and a language translation competition for the students of all the constituent colleges of CARE. The Online Guest lecture was on the topic ‘தாய் மொழியும் தமிழ் மொழியும்’ delivered by Dr.Arasendiran, Retired Professor of Tamil, Madras Christian College. The event was presided by the Vice-Chancellor, CARE and Dean, Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute. Around 150 participants attended the program. The lecture was followed by a group competition on a translation of selected English words. There was active participation by the medical, dental, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, architecture, and law college students in the competition. Prizes were distributed to the winners. The students expressed that the program was much useful and the competition was interesting.

International Street Children’s Day

Guest lecture for CARE affiliated colleges in commemoration of International Street Children Day on “Voice of Voiceless” utilizing the Zoom platform was conducted by the Chettinad College of Nursing in coordination with Mental Health Nursing Department on 05.02.2021 at 10-11am. The resource person for the above program was Ms.Shanthi Hopper, Senior Manager, Advocacy & Programmatic Campaign, World Vision India. The sessions focused on Street children and the problems faced by the children, forms of child abuse & child protection act, rights of children were added on to the session.

Online Workshop on Social Entrepreneurship conducted by MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Govt Of India hosted by Social Entrepreneurship, Swacchata and Rural Engagement Cell, CARE, UBA and NSS, CARE.

a part of Social Entrepreneurship Cell of the Higher Education Institution, MGNCRE conducted an online workshop for motivating and promoting Swachhta and Social Entrepreneurship through preparation of ‘Social Enterprise Business Plans’ at Chettinad Academy of Research and Education. In this regard, Social Entrepreneurship, Swacchata and Rural Engagement Cell, CARE, UBA and NSS, CARE has conducted an online workshop for one-hour for the students with knowledge sharing including aspects of encouraging Social Entrepreneurship. The online workshop was in hybrid model with zoom participants as well as live streaming was done. The organizers were Dr. Priyadharshini S, Professor and HOD, Department of Microbiology, CHRI and Coordinator, Social Entrepreneurship, Swacchata and Rural Engagement Cell, CARE and Dr. Koyeli Girigoswami, NSS, PO and UBA Coordinator, CARE. There were 200 students and 50 faculties who attended the workshop. The workshop was very much encouraging for the students to become self-dependent by starting small business.

Plastic-free environment awareness campaign

NSS and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan of CARE organized a plastic-free campaign in the adopted village Kayar. Nearly 100 students and volunteers from FAHS, CCN, and CSP participated in the event. They went door to door of the villagers and collected the plastic bags and distributed cloth bags to them. This is a part of the Swacchata activity. The faculties accompanying them were Dr. Koyeli Girigoswami, FAHS, Ms. Nancy Victoria, CCN, and Mrs. Swathi, CSP.
