National Immunization Day 2024The Chettinad School of Pharmaceutical Sciences conducted an outreach program at Chettinad Hospital, Kelambakkam. The outreach program's goal was to raise awareness about Immunization. India observes National Vaccination Day, also known as National Immunization Day, on March 16 each year to raise awareness of the value of vaccines in the healthcare system. The day's purpose is to raise awareness of the effectiveness of immunizations in preventing fatal diseases. The first National Vaccination Day was celebrated in India in 1995 to eradicate polio from the country. Since then, it has become an important event in India's public health calendar. Students of B. Pharm performed a play in Tamil to help the audience comprehend the importance of vaccination among patients and caretakers. The maternal and parental mothers were educated about the importance of vaccination and the risk factors. The students were encouraged to create awareness among the public. The main objective was to implement the importance of vaccination. The Indian government has been promoting vaccination campaigns to protect the population from the virus and prevent the spread of the disease. The government of India launched Mission Indradhanush in 2014 to ensure full Immunization with all available vaccines for children up to two years of age and pregnant women. India is moving towards eradicating measles and rubella and has set a target of 2023 for covering children and pregnant women. Measles kills more than a lakh child globally and Rubella causes congenital disabilities. Vaccines can prevent both. Career Guidance Program - “Overseas Career Opportunities for Pharmacists and Career Guidance”The Overseas Career Opportunities Career Guidance Program was organised to provide individuals with comprehensive insights into pursuing careers abroad. The program aimed to assist B.Pharm students in understanding the various aspects of working and living overseas, including exploring international job markets, understanding visa and immigration processes, adapting to different cultures, and making informed decisions about their career paths. Dr.Akram Ahmad, the CEO founder and career coach of Academically Global Healthcare Academy explained the overseas career opportunities for pharmacists in Australia, due to its growing healthcare sector and demand for skilled professionals. Pharmacists can work in various pharmacy settings, including community pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, and specialty clinics. In these roles, pharmacists would be responsible for dispensing medications, counseling patients on medication use, managing inventory, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals. Clinical pharmacists work in hospitals and healthcare institutions, participating in patient care teams to optimize medication therapy. They review medication orders, provide dosing recommendations, monitor drug interactions, and ensure patient safety. Universities and research institutions in Australia often hire pharmacists for teaching and research positions. These roles involve educating future pharmacists, conducting research on drug efficacy and safety, and contributing to the advancement of pharmaceutical knowledge. Opportunities exist within the pharmaceutical industry, including roles in drug development, regulatory affairs, quality control, and medical affairs. These roles involve working with pharmaceutical companies to ensure compliance with regulations, develop new drugs, and promote existing products. Australia has areas with limited access to healthcare services. Pharmacists in these regions play a vital role in providing medication-related services and health education to underserved communities. This event was organized by Dr.K.Lakshmi, Professor and Dean of School of Pharmacetuical Sciences along with Prof.(Dr.) Ahmed Basha Abdul Bari, President Institution Innovation Council, Chettinad Academy of Research and Education. GPAT QualifiersGPAT (Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test) is a national-level examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The GPAT exam is a computer-based test (CBT) consisting of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The qualifying marks for GPAT can vary each year depending on the overall performance of candidates. The NTA releases the cutoff scores, and candidates who score equal to or above the cutoff are considered qualified. GPAT scores are used by various institutions across India for admission to their Master's (M.Pharm) programs. Candidates with a valid GPAT score can apply to participating colleges and universities. Each institute may have its own specific cutoffs and admission process. The NTA also releases an All India Rank (AIR) based on the candidate's performance in the GPAT exam. This rank can be used to gauge one's performance compared to other candidates. About 20 students were given training during their third year and final year of study at our university. The Management of CARE also supported all 20 students with 50% of the GPAT coaching fee. Students were given virtual training by Espharma Education, Hyderabad along with mock tests at different levels covering all the topics of the syllabus. Aug 07, 2023 |

Summer Internship - July 2022One great opportunity for students to solve the dilemma of choosing between industry and academia at the end of their formal education is the internship program. This short-term work experience in pharmaceutical companies will help students better understand the pharmaceutical industry, learn the process of drug discovery and development, and build a strong network with pharmaceutical experts and fellows, all of which will benefit future career development. Some interns may be able to present the results of their work in scientific papers or conference talks, or they may even be able to land a job as a result of the training. Chettinad School of Pharmaceutical Sciences encourages internship programs. Some testimonials post-internship from our students: “We started off in the store section before moving on to the production department, where we can find both solid and liquid dosage forms. We had an opportunity to learn in the production unit, we then learned about many instruments that were utilized there and the pharmaceutical products prepared by them. Then we headed to the packing department to learn about various packaging materials that were used. Then we visited the two more crucial departments: Quality control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA).” “Clinical Pharmacology, Quality Assurance, Biostatistics, Bioanalytical interactions with clinical investigators helped us to understand the SOPs more effectively. The internship was a tremendous learning experience that helped me grow personally and professionally and laid the stage for my future career.” “First 5 days we visited the QC department .We were guided by QC incharge. We learnt about many quality control procedures and machines.(UV spectrophotometer, HPLC, Dissolution test apparatus, pH metre apparatus). We then visited Quality Assurance with attached BMR with COA. We went to the raw materials room where they kept a complete record of all manufactured products. In the Production department, we were explained about all the steps and machines involved in manufacturing tablets and capsules such as the compression machine and Capsule filling machine. In the granulation area, we saw the functioning of machines - Rapid mixture granulator, Fluid bed dryer, Colloidal mill, Mechanical sieve shaker.” “We learned documentation procedures in the Quality assurance department and we were also given chances to take seminars individually on our allotted topics on the weekends.” “In the Quality Control Dept., guided by the head of QC we were trained in handling HPLC, IR Spectroscopy, Assay analysis, and Dissolution analysis. In the Quality Assurance Dept., the head of QA guided us with the processes and procedures that improve the quality of the finished drug product such as Documentation and Monitoring.” Jul 01, 2022 |
